RFiD Discovery combines the precision of ultra-wideband (UWB) technology with powerful location software and robust, industrial-grade UWB hardware - enabling accurate, real-time tracking for applications such as work in progress monitoring, stock location, and worker tracking to boost productivity. Our solutions deliver reliable performance even in challenging environments including manufacturing, logistics, and large-scale industrial sites.

Ultra-wideband (UWB): high-precision tracking for complex environments

Ultra-wideband (UWB) is a wireless communication protocol, similar to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. With RFiD Discovery’s UWB solutions, organisations can accurately monitor the movement, location and interaction of assets, vehicles and people - to within 30 centimetres or less. Ideal for defined indoor and outdoor spaces, UWB supports use cases such as WIP tracking, forklift and stock monitoring, and workforce safety, helping to streamline operations, reduce losses and boost productivity.

How does it work?

Tags that send location data

Small, battery-powered UWB tags are attached to assets, vehicles, or worn by workers. They send out short radio bursts that measure exact distances to nearby receivers, giving very accurate position information. Some tags can also detect movement, temperature or include alert buttons.

signal

Anchors and gateways that relay the signals

Anchors are fixed around your site to pick up signals from the tags. They calculate each tag’s location using advanced timing methods. Gateways then send this data via Ethernet, Wi-Fi or 4G to the location platform.

dashboard

Platform that shows results in real time

The platform processes the data and displays it on live maps, dashboards and reports. You can see where assets, stock, vehicles and workers are, set up alerts, review movement history, and connect the system to your existing tools like ERP, WMS or MES.

Why UWB?

  • Visibility over work in progress
Monitor production flow in real time with UWB tags attached to WIP assets. Define zones using geofencing to track status, ensure FIFO compliance, manage rework, and control line flow, all displayed on a 2D factory layout.
  • Reduce loading errors
Combine UWB with RFID to help forklifts verify they’ve picked the right package and delivered it to the correct location, avoiding costly misplacements.

  • Worker safety and accountability
Track worker positions and product progress live for better project management. Use geofencing to secure dangerous areas and receive instant alerts when trespasses occur.
  • High precision in challenging environments
Delivering up to 30 cm accuracy indoors, UWB is ideal for forklift tracking, package placement, and operations in metal-heavy or interference-prone facilities.

Discover how Ultra-wideband (UWB) works across our solutions

Workers looking at a tablet

Worker productivity tracking

Monitor employee movements in real time to understand how teams operate across your site. Identify time spent in specific work zones, track task completion, and spot bottlenecks. Use these insights to improve coordination, streamline processes, and ensure resources are used where they deliver the most value.

Worker tracking for safety

Monitor worker locations in real time to help prevent accidents and protect staff in high-risk areas. UWB tracking lets you set up geofences around hazardous zones and receive instant alerts when someone enters. Combine location data with time-in-zone metrics to improve safety procedures, support compliance, and ensure rapid response in emergencies.
managers checking work in progress

Work in progress (WIP) tracking

Track the movement of products or materials through every stage of production with UWB technology. Attach tags to items or containers to see their exact location, monitor flow between zones, and maintain FIFO compliance. Get a clear, real-time view of production status, reduce delays, and manage rework efficiently - all from an interactive factory layout display.
